Excursion to Capriana monastery

Capriana monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Moldova (foundation year - 1429) is situated at a distance of 40 km north – west from Chisinau. For a long period it was considered to be the headquarters of Moldova’s bishop. A lot of great Moldavian rules, such as Stefan cel Mare came here to pray.

Also, in Capriana monastery was preserved the biggest religious library in Moldova, with valuable gifts from different rulers. It was closed during the Soviet Union, and re-opened in 1989, becoming a symbol of national revival.
